The
Flapper Party – 1920’s theme
Date:
April 2007
Event: 1920’s Flapper Party
(Myrtle’s Birthday)
Venue: The White Hart, Wimbish
After
creating several invitation designs, Myrtle chose
a simple black and white card with the silhouette
of a flapper as its main detail. Included in the invitation
were details of the menu, an accommodation listing
and a reply service card enabling the guests to indicate
their availability, chosen menu and transport requirements.
Not only did the reply service offer Myrtle with stress
free administration of her guest responses, but also
enabled us to make the necessary transport arrangements
and provide the venue with each individuals menu.
The
silhouette on the Invitation was introduced at other
stages to ensure continuity. At the event, each guest
had a place name card which included details of their
own choice in menu and a life-size version of the
“flapper” accompanied the Table Plan.
The
design for the Table Plan was created to give an impression
of a theatre/film poster. It included an A to Z listing
of each guest and the table on which they would be
sitting, a plan of the layout of the tables, together
with information relating to the entertainers, venue,
and florist.
Each
table name was based on a particular famous person
or character, dance or place of the 1920s (Clara Bow,
Josephine Baker, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy,
The Cotton Club, Salvador Dali, The Charleston, Black
Bottom) and every table had a sign with a picture
of the table name together with a small piece of information
relating to it to ensure that all the guests understood
it’s meaning.
The
tables were covered in white linen and black Table
Runners and were decorated with a floral and Ostrich
Feather display in a large Martini Vase draped with
Pearls, a mirror plate and small lights were added
to emphasise the look and design.
Entertainment
was provided by a Table Magician and a jazz band played
hits from the 1920s.
